Washington Square Park
sound: A cell phone snaps shut.
woman in her 60’s: It was my sister. She says she has pneumonia.
(pause)
same woman: And she had it last year.
(pause)
same woman: I think she’s faking it.
companion, incredulous: Faking pneumonia?!
overhearing the above while walking by, me to an imaginary companion: Look at the trees in this park! So bare! I swear to god the city comes in and does that.
